I gots to get my crash on
Yes! Still alive! I mean you probably knew that… it’s not like Halolz stopped updating or anything. But still I kinda fell off the radar there for a bit… really no idea why. I guess after ConnectiCon and Otakon I just got plain ol’ burnt out. Those two conventions really take it out of me, and I certainly put a lot of pressure on myself when they come up. And really this year I have to… I get more sales at Otakon than any other convention I do each year, and right now conventions are my only real source of income.
I know, no one really cares about this stuff… and I don’t have any great excuse for not getting the strip started up again like I wanted to. I really have been thinking about it though… specifically how I want to do it. Part of the problem is that I’m leaning towards using a blogging platform where everything is sorted by date… which is very incompatible with my desire to rearrange and restructure the archives in a non-date oriented way. Also, as a guy who uses Wordpress 2.3.3 every day to update his busiest site, Wordpress 2.5+ just plain ANNOYS me. I think there are others like me out there, who just can’t stand this clumsy interface. Word on the street is 2.7 will be changing it up again, but honestly my gut is telling me if I’m going to use Wordpress anytime soon here I need to downgrade to something I don’t HATE using.
Again this is all web talk I doubt anyone is actually interested in. Lets get into actual strip stuff…
It might interest you to know that after kicking around some ideas in my head, I’ve come to the consensus that to do a relaunch right, I need to start from the very beginning. I’ve thought about it, and there are so many good reasons to do this. First it solves archive dating issues because the strip would start “from scratch”. Second, I think a restart provides an excellent opportunity for me to improve the overall writing and development of the story, and since it’s been sooooo long since the strip was really rolling no one really remembers what (if anything) was going on when there WAS a story. Ideally I’d like to follow the archives as a pretty strict guide… in some ways the story will return verbatim… in some ways characters and plots may be extremely different. I think doing this might actually be fun for people who actually followed the strip back in the day, people may be surprised at what changes and what stays the same.
Anyway this is what I’ve been thinking… thoughts are always appreciated but honestly I think I’m pretty set on this idea. Honestly I think my biggest hurdle is just getting the website to function the way I want it to, but of course, I have to remember that like Halolz, it’s better to get content flowing than worrying about the site design…
So anyway that’s what’s up with the strip right now. I did get a little artistic last weekend though… I was able to throw this together:
I have New York Anime Fest coming up this weekend, and one goal I’d really like to stick with is doing a new piece of art for each con I attend. I feel like at least that way I’ll be able to force myself to do some more artsy stuff, which I WANT to do, but sometimes it’s hard to get done when you don’t have specific deadlines set.
Anyway I’m really happy with how this one came out and, if you couldn’t tell, I’m pretty in to Castle Crashers at the moment.
Well this post is getting a little long, and it’s friggin’ 5am (yay insomnia), so I’ll cut off my ranting for the night. Oh I did want to mention I FINALLY signed up for Twitter, so feel free to add me if you’re down with the Mircobloggin’. Expect plenty of Sophie related updates! >__>

Good, you’re still aware of this site. Glad to hear you’re kicking ideas around of where to go with the strip. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Glad to see you havent died. Once again, I had thought that Stac had gone the way of Firefly, but glad to see it’s still alive.

I understand, Shawn. Take your time and relax… I don’t mind if there’s no comic for a while if there are more important things for you to solve than making it.
Nice art by the way. Peace.

nice to see that we haven’t been completely pushed into the corner, you know, behind that book you swear your gonna read, or those bills you promise you’ll pay, or that goldfish you keep saying you need to flush, badly.
seriously though, glad to see we’re still noticed

although its good to see acknowledgment of the site, I reserve the cries of ‘Staccato is back!… again!’ until we have another comic
September 28th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
i reserve the right to say”again stac is back..again!” shawn buddy dont let another hiatus happen, a lame comic is better than no comic….

Actually this is a pretty good idea. With the archives as a template updating should be easier and the possibility of running into writer’s block is lower. Still, I hope it’s not too similar to the archives because it would feel like reading the same things over and over again, but I believe in your ability to tell a good story. :)

Hmm… there’s seems to be a lot of con and fest you’ve been gone too what about some artwork or something anything would be nice just to get this site moving.

hey shawn, i definitely feel your pain with wordpress. i’m sure they’ll get a good interface… someday.
really looking forward to seeing the revamped storyline; i just read through the archives last week to refresh my memory!

When will there be a new stac?I have been sitting here for 3 months waiting for one.Still,Its ok if you wont get to one soon.Take your time.WE CAN ALL WAIT.
October 27th, 2008 at 3:56 am
This is getting ridiculous.
I love your work Shawn, but if you’re going to tell us that you are doing new Staccato, you should wait until you have some stockpiled so we aren’t left hanging like this.
November 6th, 2008 at 2:22 am
so when are you going to reboot the comic again?
December 24th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Shawn, just give it up already. Comic’s apparently aren’t your thing. Does anyone even still have your site bookmarked? Go take care of your family, and stop teasing us with biannual updates. NO MORE COMICS FOR YOU! Just cut the cord, and stop complaining and making excuses why you aren’t making comics. QUIT
December 25th, 2008 at 12:42 am
DO NOT LISTEN TO PEOLE LIKE MARK, SHAWN
While i would REALLY like some new Staccato comics, i understand you have other responsibilities. It is better for you to be on hiatus, and there to be a chance of more comics, than definitely no comics at all. to quote myself, “A glimmer of hope, is better than no hope at all.”

…”and I don’t have any great excuse for not getting the strip started up again like I wanted to” - Shawn.
Other responsabilities, huh Kauhl?
